SNOWY START TO NEW SEASON

Thank you to all those who made the effort to try and fight their way through the snow to get to Cadwell. Most of you by now will know that the first meeting of the season was cancelled on the Saturday and Sunday by the circuit management. As well as the circuit being well covered the approach roads were virtually impassable and the doctors stuck on the Derbyshire roads it would have been impossible to run the meeting, even if we had managed to clear the track. The paddock was also unsafe, it was just one big sheet of ice. At the present time we are looking at finding a new date later in the year We will keep you informed in the May newsletter.

In the last newsletter we gave you information on the new Road Race championships and I am pleased to say that the cancelled round at Cadwell that included the Road and Track Championship will now be held at Olivers Mount on the 21st April. Originally the Championship was just to be held on the Sunday as the second round but now Sunday will become the first and second round, luckily the meeting includes two races for each category which has helped the club keep the Championship on schedule.

The Olivers Mount Ian Watson Spring National Road Races on 21st April has attracted a huge entry again with all grids full, entries have been returned for certain classes. Heading the solo entry is Guy Martin, and Dave Molyneaux will top the Sidecar Class.

Ian Blakeley has been upgraded to Paddock Supervisor and Phil Rushton becomes Paddock Marshal who is responsible for keeping an eye on safety rules through out the day and report to the Clerk of the Course any mis doings.

Dave Clark becomes starter/finisher with Bob Emmerson continuing as Chief Start Line Marsal with Dennis Bastiman and Will Wright under his control. Joe Varey will now be helping Jim Adams on the Paddock Gate. A little easier work for him.

We are still on the look out for more people willing to take responsibility with an official job so if you are interested or know anyone who would be, please do not hesitate to let us know.

Please remember that lunch vouchers will be allocated at Scarborough, these will be given to you once you are in position, by your team leader.

Signing on times

Officials, Scrutineers and Paddock Marshals – 07.30 – Please sign on at the Mere security point, where you need to produce your Marshal Association card. For those who work in the control and paddock area, you should have now received your car pass.

Track Marshals – between 07.00am and 08.00am at the main spectator entrance.

Sue Micklethwaite has taken on the role of Marshals Co-ordinator and will be in charge of signing on. We have a new Chief Marshal, Shaun Kilgallen who will be at signing on and then he will take charge of over seeing marshalling on the top part of the circuit. It is important that everyone is signed on early so they can take up their positions for a course inspection at 08.30am. Phil Willis has been upgraded to a team leader and will take over the bottom straight section including the Jumps. The next meeting scheduled will be the Festival of Speed Hill Climb for Bikes and Cars on Saturday 4th / Sunday 5th May. Again we shall need Marshals for this, everyone to sign on Saturday by no later than 08.30am in the main paddock area, once you have signed on please go to your section if you have come in your own transport take this with you and the team leader will instruct you where to park. Please do not leave it in the paddock under any circumstances.

Donington Park - This meeting now includes Superkarts

A meeting not to be missed but we do need all of our members to marshal as this is a very important meeting for the club and we can’t afford to be under staffed.

New Officials

John Clark from Lincolnshire has been granted an ACU probationary Clerk of the Course Licence and Jim Shackleton from Bradford has also been accepted as a probationary Road Race Steward which will allow him to act as the Clubs safety and incident officer. His first duties will be at Donington Park.

Shaun Kilgallen also took up his post at Olivers Mount as chief marshal and Dave Clark took on the job as starter/finisher. Phil Rushton took on the job of paddock marshal and did an excellent job which we are sure will continue throughout the season.
